Bangladesh Police has reportedly submitted a request to the Interpol for a red notice against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 11 others over alleged plans to topple Muhammad Yunus-led interim government, India Today reported.

The Bangladesh Police have recently lodged a case against Hasina and 72 others for allegedly plotting civil war and attempting to overthrow the interim government.

Hasina now faces over 100 cases, including mass murder and graft.

Enamul Haque Sagor, Assistant Inspector General (Media), confirmed the development to Bangladeshi newspaper Daily Star, saying "These applications are filed in connection with allegations that emerge during investigations or through ongoing case proceedings".

If approved, the red notice would enable provisional arrest and location tracking of the accused.

"Interpol plays a key role in identifying the locations of fugitives residing abroad. Once the whereabouts of any absconding individual are confirmed, that information is relayed to Interpol,” said Sagor.

“The request for the red notice is currently under process,” he added, Dhaka Tribune reported.

As per Bangladeshi newspaper Daily Star, police processes such requests based on appeals from courts, public prosecutors, or investigating agencies.

Last November, the International Crimes Tribunal’s Chief Prosecutor’s Office asked police to seek Interpol's help in arresting Hasina and others classified as fugitives.

Hasina fled Bangladesh on August 5 last year after a massive student-led uprising toppled her 16-year-old Awami League governmet.

She has since been residing in India.

Many top Awami League leaders and ministers were either arrested or escaped abroad to avoid trials for charges including mass killings and crimes against humanity.
