Bihar’s rural road network is set for a significant expansion, with the state cabinet approving projects worth over Rs 17,000 crore aimed at enhancing connectivity in 37 districts, reported PTI.
The decision, taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, marks a push towards improved infrastructure in rural areas.
Briefing the media following the meeting, Additional Chief Secretary, Cabinet Secretariat Department, S Siddharth, stated, "These projects include construction and maintenance of 11,251 roads, the total length of which would be 19,876 km. An expenditure of Rs 17,266 crore was approved for the purpose."
Among the districts, Madhubani is set to see the highest number of roads built under this initiative.
A total of 706 roads, spanning 1,237 km, will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 1,221 crore.
Meanwhile, Aurangabad will witness the construction of 576 roads, covering 1,252 km—the longest stretch under the scheme—at a cost of Rs 1,125 crore.
The district of Gaya will benefit from 629 roads, stretching over 1,241 km, with an investment of Rs 936 crore. Similarly, Muzaffarpur is set to receive 614 roads, covering 993 km, at a cost of Rs 733 crore.
The initiative is poised to significantly improve rural connectivity, fostering economic growth, ease of transport, and access to essential services.
