As per the early trends, around 9:55 AM, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) snatched key Congress strongholds won in 2018. This is a double-whammy for the Congress that is already trailing in the key seats of the Malwa-Nimar region. To put things in perspective, Congress was required to do exceedingly well in both regions to cross the majority mark.
In Chachoda, Mungaoli, Chanderi, Picchore, Sheopur, Dimani, and Dabra, the BJP is leading already. These are the seats it lost in 2018. Interestingly, BJP is leading in 14 of the 28 seats in the region. In September, pollsters were giving 2-4 seats to the BJP in the region, and in October, the predicted tally was revised to 6-10. Assuming the BJP does end up with 12 or more seats in the region, it would be in the pole position to form the government with a significant majority.
Jyotiraditya Scindia comes from the region of Gwalior-Chambal.
