The Golden Temple in Amritsar received a bomb threat, prompting Punjab Police to intensify security around the shrine and launch an investigation, reported The New Indian Express.
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) reported receiving an email threatening to blow up the langar hall (community kitchen) in the temple complex.
Acting on the complaint, Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar confirmed that a case had been registered.
Police have deployed a bomb disposal squad and anti-sabotage team to prevent any untoward incident. Bhullar said, “A bomb disposal squad and anti-sabotage team have been deployed to thwart any untoward incident,’’ and added that the state cybercrime unit and other agencies would assist in the probe.
SGPC manager Bhagwant Singh said the committee immediately forwarded the threatening email to the police. Security has been tightened inside the Golden Temple, while police have made elaborate arrangements outside the complex.
Demanding swift action, Congress MP from Amritsar Gurjeet Singh Aujla posted on X saying that it was not just a threat to a religious site but an attack on peace, faith and humanity.
