The Centre has greenlit the construction of two significant highways with a combined investment of approximately Rs 10,000 crore.
One of the projects involves a 17 km long highway that will link Urban Extension Road-II (UER 2) to the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway near Tronica City, reported PTI.
With an estimated construction cost of Rs 3,300 crore, the highway is expected to divert a substantial volume of traffic from congested corridors such as NH-48, NH-44, Ring Roads, and the Barapullah elevated corridor.
According to officials, this connection will streamline movement for vehicles entering Delhi from Haryana and Rajasthan enroute to Dehradun.
"Currently bids that have been received for hiring a consultant are under evaluation and the work to prepare a detailed project report is likely to be awarded by mid-June this year," a government document noted.
The second approved project is a 65 km highway connecting Tronica City to the under-construction Faridabad-Noida-Ghaziabad (FNG) Expressway.
With an estimated cost of Rs 7,500 crore, this highway will link five major expressways and highways, enhancing connectivity across NCR towns such as Ghaziabad, Noida, Loni, Baghpat, and Faridabad.
"The highway will provide connectivity to NCR towns such as Loni, Baghpat, Ghaziabad, Noida and Faridabad with North and Southwest Delhi. It will help in decongesting internal roads and city centres like the Sarai Kale Khan section and Kalindi Kunj, providing an alternative for intercity and freight traffic," the document added.
CM Gupta noted, “A total of Rs 1.25 lakh crore work decongestion projects has been initiated by the Centre in Delhi.”
The NHAI, with PWD support, will execute the projects, also using inert material from Delhi’s landfill sites. About 10 lakh metric tonnes have already been used in the UER 2 works.
