Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) is set to develop two multi-modal transit hubs in Vadapalani and Mandaveli, integrating metro access with bus services and commercial infrastructure, reported The Hindu.
The Vadapalani project, with an investment of Rs 481.93 crore, will transform existing depot sites on Arcot Road into a 12 storey transit-oriented hub spanning 1.06 lakh sq.m.
The facility will include two basement levels with parking space for 1,475 two-wheelers and 214 four-wheelers.
A modern bus terminus with five boarding bays, two alighting bays, and retail outlets will be located at ground level.
Office spaces will occupy floors one to ten, while floors eleven and twelve will house facilities for the animation, visual effects, gaming, comics, and extended reality (AVGC) sector.
Additionally, a restaurant zone and dedicated food courts are planned for the fifth floor.
In Mandaveli, the hub will be constructed above the metro station and include ground-level bus access.
The plan features twin buildings, each rising seven floors—one to house a mall and the other for office spaces.
According to CMRL officials cited in the report, tenders have been floated and contracts are expected to be finalised within three to four months.
Construction of the Vadapalani hub will take three years, while the Mandaveli hub is projected to be completed in two years.
