The Chinese Embassy in India has issued more than 85,000 visas to Indian citizens between 1 January and 9 April 2025, reported NDTV.

Announcing the update via X, Chinese Ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, said, “As of April 9, 2025, the Chinese Embassy and Consulates in India have issued more than 85,000 visas to Indian citizens traveling to China this year. Welcome more Indian friends to visit China, experience an open, safe, vibrant, sincere and friendly China.”

The surge in visa issuance comes on the back of a series of relaxations introduced by China to facilitate smoother travel for Indian citizens.

Indian travellers can now submit applications directly at visa centres without prior online appointments, and those making short-term visits are exempted from biometric submissions.

Visa fees have been reduced, and approval timelines have been shortened, making travel more accessible and efficient.

The move is also part of China’s broader push to attract Indian tourists, offering experiences steeped in its cultural heritage, seasonal festivals, and scenic locales.

On the economic front, Chinese Embassy spokesperson Yu Jing emphasised the significance of bilateral cooperation, particularly in the context of global trade tensions.

“China-India economic and trade relationship is based on complementarity and mutual benefit. Facing the US abuse of tariffs... the two largest developing countries should stand together to overcome the difficulties,” she said.

“Trade and tariff wars have no winners. All countries should uphold the principles of extensive consultation, practice true multilateralism, jointly oppose all forms of unilateralism and protectionism,” she added.
