The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has confirmed that a houseboat-style convention centre will be constructed at Baansera Park in Sarai Kale Khan, according to a Times of India report.

Echoing the grandeur of the iconic Dal Lake houseboats, standing 8.8 metres tall and spread across multiple levels from a ground deck to an uppermost tier, the houseboat will be crafted by expert artisans using a rich blend of woods.

Deodar will form the base, while the superstructure will incorporate cedar, walnut, and chinar wood for interior panels and ceilings.

“This huge boat, to be made by master craftsmen, will be placed near the eating house at Baansera,” a DDA official was quoted as saying by ToI.

“Right from the railing, columns, Mehrab arches and exterior wall panels, everything will be intricately carved in Persian style," the official added.

The initiative is part of Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena’s broader vision of rejuvenating the Yamuna floodplain as a vibrant public space.

Notably, the structure will not float but remain permanently affixed to the ground.

The facility will be equipped with amenities such as a meeting room for 15 individuals, a reception area with a waiting lounge, dining facilities with a pantry, gallery space and interiors to match with Kashmiri wood-carved jail, railings and other features, ToI reported.

The flooring will use engineered wood, while fire-resistant panels and sealed joints will ensure durability.

The DDA expects completion within 3–4 months of project allocation, estimating a structural lifespan of 50 years.

This follows the November 2024 opening of Café Bamboo Oasis, a fully air-conditioned café amidst Baansera’s 30,000 bamboo plants and other landscaped features.
