The Delhi government on Tuesday (29 April) approved the Delhi School Education Transparency in Fixation and Regulation of Fees Bill, 2025.
The bill aims to regulate fee structures in both private and government schools across the national capital, reported PTI.
Chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the Cabinet meeting marked what she described as a “bold and historic” step to safeguard students and parents.
“The previous governments in Delhi made no provision to prevent fee hike. There was no guideline to help government prevent fee hike by private schools,” said Gupta during a press briefing.
She highlighted widespread concerns, stating that the issue was discussed widely in recent days and there was 'panic' among the parents due to activities of some schools and complaints regarding 'harassment' of students in the name of fee hike.
Education Minister Ashish Sood elaborated that the Bill proposes a structured approach, with the formation of three-tier committees to regulate and review proposed fee increases.
Meanwhile, in another significant development, the Delhi Cabinet also greenlit three major health sector reforms to bolster public healthcare services.
These include the establishment of a Price Monitoring and Resource Unit, and outsourcing of OPD/IPD registrations and diagnostic services.
Health Minister Pankaj Singh underscored the government’s commitment to healthcare reform, stating, every day, the Delhi government is taking steps to provide the best facilities in our hospitals.
He added that the reforms focused on price regulation, operational outsourcing, and PPP-driven diagnostic services, aiming to enhance healthcare delivery and governance across Delhi.
