Demolition Of Private Houses In Kukrail Floodplain Zone Not Under Consideration: Yogi Adityanath Assures Residents

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has said that the state government is committed to ensure the safety and satisfaction of residents in areas affected by the Kukrail River rejuvenation project.

In a statement on X, Adityanath assured that families impacted by the river rejuvenation project have nothing to worry about.

CM Yogi's assurance came after several homes in Abrar Nagar, Rahim Nagar, Shivani Nagar, Pant Nagar, and Indraprastha Nagar were marked with a red cross by the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA), apparently due to their location in the area claimed to be a green belt on Kukrail riverbed, a protected area, undergoing rejuvenation.

Adityanath stated that the marking of private houses was unjustified and and those responsible for this will be held accountable.

"Whether it is Pantnagar or Indraprasthnagar in Lucknow, ensuring the safety and satisfaction of every resident here is our responsibility. Families affected by the Kukrail River rejuvenation project need not worry. There was no justification for marking private houses, and those responsible for this will be held accountable," he said.

The UP Chief Minister added that concerned officials have been instructed to meet with local residents to dispel their fears and misunderstandings and to work on the development of public amenities in the area.

He said that the floodplain zone marking has been carried out under the directives and regulations of the National Green Tribunal (NGT).

He added that the area also includes private land.

"There is currently no need or proposal to vacate this area. There is no consideration of demolishing private buildings in this area," the UP CM added.

Looking ahead, Adityanath announced that no new construction will be permitted in the floodplain zone without the approval of the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG).

He added that the officials have been instructed to remove any markings placed on buildings during the floodplain zone marking process.

The Chief Minister assured that if there is any building identified as constructed on private land in the river bed, which is certified owned by a private person, it will be acquired only after giving adequate compensation as per rules.

"Rest assured, protecting the interests, satisfaction, and convenience of every citizen is the top priority of your government," he added.
