The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has expanded its expertise beyond urban transport by entering the port logistics sector.

On Tuesday (28 October), the DMRC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Umeandus Technology Private Limited, and BEML Limited to develop a Real-Time Automated Cargo Evacuation System (e-FTS) at Kandla, Gujarat.

The agreement marks DMRC’s first collaboration in the maritime domain and aims to introduce automation and digital intelligence into cargo operations.

The e-FTS project will initially be implemented as a pilot. Once operational, DMRC is expected to manage its operations and maintenance for 25 years. The precise roles and responsibilities of each party will be finalised in a forthcoming ‘Definitive Agreement’.

The proposed e-FTS system integrates advanced technologies such as blockchain, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and the Internet of Things to streamline freight transport and logistics.

Designed primarily for ports, it aims to improve efficiency, sustainability, and transparency while cutting the time and costs associated with traditional cargo handling.

Officials indicated that the system could later be adapted for other ports or logistics hubs based on specific client requirements and site conditions.

In a separate achievement, DMRC has been selected for the prestigious Indian Concrete Institute (ICI) Awards 2025 under the category of “Outstanding Prestressed Concrete Structure in the Country Award” for the Maujpur–Majlis Park metro corridor.

The honour will be formally presented at the ACECON conference in Hyderabad this December.

The Maujpur–Majlis Park section, part of Delhi Metro’s Phase-IV expansion, extends the existing Pink Line and will soon become India’s first circular metro corridor.
