After praising the US inheritance tax, Indian Overseas Congress president Sam Pitroda sparked another controversy in the ongoing election season by making racist comments against Indians of different regions.

In an interview given to The Statesman, Pitroda said, "...People on East look like Chinese, people on West look like Arab, people on North look like, you know, maybe white and people in South look like Africa."

Pitroda was talking about India's survival for 75 years as an independent nation in a "happy environment" and said that we could hold such a diverse country together because we respect each other.

"We are all brothers and sisters. We all respect different languages, different religions, different looks, different customs and different food and as a Gujarati, I love dosa and idli," Pitroda added.

He said that he believes in that India where "everybody compromises a little bit. "That idea of India, which is rooted in democracy, in freedom, liberty, fraternity is being challenged," Pitroda continued.

He alleged that "Ram temple, Ram Navmi, Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) going to temple all the time and talking not as a national leader but as a leader of the BJP" are challenging this idea of India.

Netizens believe that Pitroda's comments will help the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections. Earlier, Congress distanced itself from Pitroda's comments on the US inheritance tax and said it is not the position of the party.
