The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday (21 June) announced that it has initiated the preparations for forthcoming Assembly Elections in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), Haryana, Maharashtra and Jharkhand.

The preparation begins with the updation of the electoral rolls in the three states and the Union Territory (UT) of J&K with 1 July 2024 as the qualifying date.

The ECI said that elections in Haryana, Maharashtra and Jharkhand will be concluded before the terms of Legislative Assemblies end on 3 November, 26 November and 5 January 2025 respectively.

For J&K, the ECI mentioned huge participation in the recently concluded Lok Sabha Elections with remarks of Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar in his last press conference.

"General Election to the Legislative Assembly of UT of J&K is also to be conducted for constituting a new house after delimitation of Constituencies," the ECI press release said.

"The Commission firmly believes that pure, inclusive and updated electoral rolls are the foundation of free, fair and credible elections," the ECI said asking Booth Level Officers to make house to house visits.
