AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) will visit New Delhi on 16 September, a week after party veteran KA Sengottaiyan met Union Home Minister Amit Shah to push for uniting leaders who left the party, reported The New Indian Express.
An AIADMK release on Sunday (14 September) stated that Palaniswami would call on Vice President CP Radhakrishnan to congratulate him. However, sources who spoke with TNIE indicated that EPS is also likely to meet Shah to discuss recent political developments.
Sengottaiyan met Shah and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on 9 September. The next day, he told reporters that he emphasised the significance of bringing together those AIADMK officials who had broken away from the party.
His meetings unsettled the AIADMK leadership, as the veteran leader had earlier issued a 10-day ultimatum to Palaniswami to initiate steps to bring back those who drifted away. The party later stripped him of his posts.
So far, Palaniswami has not responded to Sengottaiyan’s call for unity or his meeting with Shah.
During his Delhi visit, EPS is expected to take up these issues with Shah and also discuss measures to strengthen the AIADMK-led alliance in Tamil Nadu ahead of the 2026 polls.
