In South Kashmir's Kulgam district, five terrorists were neutralised during an encounter with security forces on Thursday (19 December).
The operation began after security forces received intelligence regarding terrorist presence in the Kadder area and initiated a search operation.
The encounter began when terrorists opened fire on the security forces.
"OP KADER, Kulgam. Based on specific intelligence input regarding the presence of terrorists, a Joint Operation was launched by the Indian Army and J-K police at Kader, Kulgam. Suspicious activity was observed by vigilant troops and on being challenged, terrorists opened indiscriminate and heavy volumes of fire. Own troops effectively retaliated. Operation is in progress," Indian Army's Chinar Corps said in a post on X.
Earlier this month, security forces neutralised a terrorist involved in the killing of civilians at Gagangir, Ganderbal, and several other attacks in Jammu and Kashmir during an encounter in Srinagar district.
Last month, three terrorists were eliminated by security forces in separate encounters in J&K's Anantnag and Khanyar.
This came after the deadliest terror attack was on 20 October when seven people - including a local doctor and two workers from Bihar - were shot dead by terrorists at a tunnel construction site in Ganderbal district.
