Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a two-day visit to Maharashtra from starting Wednesday (8 October) to Thursday (9 October).
The visit will feature the inauguration of key infrastructure projects in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, hosting a foreign head of state and his delegation, and engaging in high-level discussions on technology and innovation. Here’s what is planned for his schedule:
On 8 October, the Prime Minister will inaugurate Phase 1 of the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), a Rs 19,650 crore project and India’s largest greenfield airport under a PPP model.
NMIA, designed to complement Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, will eventually handle 90 million passengers and 3.25 million metric tonnes of cargo annually.
Key features include an Automated People Mover connecting four terminals, a water taxi link, solar power generation (47 MW), EV bus services, and dedicated facilities for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) — placing sustainability at its core.
Modi will also inaugurate the final phase of Mumbai Metro Line-3 (Aqua Line), completing the 33.5 km underground corridor from Aarey to Cuffe Parade.
Built at a total cost of Rs 37,270 crore, the line has 27 stations and will serve 13 lakh commuters daily, linking South Mumbai’s cultural, financial, and administrative hubs such as the Bombay High Court, Mantralaya, and Reserve Bank of India.
The Prime Minister will launch “Mumbai One”, the country’s first integrated common mobility app, covering 11 public transport operators across suburban railways, metro, monorail, and municipal bus services.
The app will offer digital ticketing, multimodal trip planning, real-time travel updates, and an SOS safety feature.
He will also roll out the Short-Term Employability Programme (STEP) across 400 ITIs and 150 technical schools in Maharashtra. The initiative will establish 2,500 new training batches, including exclusive courses for women and modules in AI, EVs, IoT, solar, and additive manufacturing.
On 9 October, Prime Minister Modi will host UK PM Sir Keir Starmer in Mumbai.
Both leaders will review progress under the India–UK Strategic Partnership and the Vision 2035 Roadmap, while engaging with business leaders on trade and innovation.
The two Prime Ministers will deliver keynote addresses at the Global Fintech Fest 2025, themed “Empowering Finance for a Better World”. The event is expected to draw 100,000 participants from over 75 countries, reinforcing Mumbai’s growing role as a global fintech hub.
