From Students To Truckers: 55 Million US Visa Holders Face Scrutiny Under New Trump Administration Review

The Trump administration in the United States is launching a sweeping review of al US visa holders, a decision that could impact more than 55 million individuals.

According to the officials, the initiative is part of an effort to detect visa violations that might lead to deportation.

“The State Department says visas that allow people to stay in the United States are revoked any time if there are ‘indicators of overstays, criminal activity, threats to public safety, engaging in any form of terrorist activity, or providing support to a terrorist organization,” a senior administration official was quoted as saying by India Today.

This initiative marks one of the most extensive visa enforcement actions in recent American history, with potential consequences for a wide range of travelers—including students, employees, and family visa holders.

Immigrant advocacy organisations have expressed concerns over both the scale and fairness of the plan.

“We review all available information as part of our vetting, including law enforcement or immigration records or any other information that comes to light after visa issuance indicating a potential ineligibility,” a US State Department official was quoted as saying by AP.

The US also will stop issuing worker visas for commercial truck drivers effective immediately, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Thursday on X.

“The increasing number of foreign drivers operating large tractor-trailer trucks on U.S. roads is endangering American lives and undercutting the livelihoods of American truckers,” Rubio posted.

The Trump administration in past months has taken steps to enforce the requirement that truckers speak and read English proficiently.

The Transportation Department said the aim is to improve road safety following incidents in which drivers’ ability to read signs or speak English may have contributed to traffic deaths.
