"Health Did Not Hinder Him From Campaigning": ED Opposes Arvind Kejriwal's Bail Plea, Delhi Court To Hear On 1 June

Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court on Thursday (30 May) issued notice to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) seeking response on Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's two pleas in the liquor policy case.

One plea seeks regular bail and the other seeks an extension of seven days in his interim bail on health grounds. Both will be heard on 1 June, the last day of Kejriwal's interim bail.

This comes after Additional Solicitor General S V Raju, representing ED, sought a minimum time of two days, to file a reply in today's hearing before Special Judge Kaveri Baweja.

Citing Kejriwal's presence in Punjab today, Raju said, "His health did not hinder him from campaigning. He moves the bail on the last date so that we get very little time. His conduct doesn't entitle him to any orders today."

Yesterday, the Supreme Court refused to entertain the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief's plea seeking a seven-day extension of his interim bail and called it "not maintainable".

The apex court had last month granted interim bail to Kejriwal to campaign for the Lok Sabha elections and had asked him to surrender on 2 June, a day after the last leg of polling.

Kejriwal was arrested on 21 March by ED and was later kept in judicial custody. An interim bail for 21 days was given to him on 10 May by the Supreme Court.
