In a tribute to India's bravest, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) had dedicated an entire platform wall at the Sir M Vishweshwaraiah Moti Bagh Metro station on the Pink Line to pay tribute to soldiers who have been honoured with the prestigious Param Veer Chakra.
The Param Vir Chakra, which translates to "Wheel of the Ultimate Brave", is India's highest military decoration awarded for the most conspicuous bravery in the presence of the enemy, regardless of rank or branch of service.
The Param Vir Chakra has been awarded a total of 21 times. Of those 21 awards, 14 were posthumous.
"In a move that reflects the DMRC's deep commitment to honouring the sacrifices made by our valiant soldiers, the platform walls of the station have been transformed into a breathtaking gallery showcasing the portraits of these gallant warriors," the DMRC said in a statement.
"The artwork, meticulously crafted by a team of talented artists, features vivid and lifelike depictions of the Param Veer Chakra awardees, capturing their indomitable spirit and unwavering courage in the face of adversity. Each portrait is accompanied by a brief about them," the statement added.
Through this initiative, DMRC invites commuters to "pause and reflect on the lives of these remarkable individuals and to draw inspiration from their selfless dedication to the cause of our nation," the statement said.
The project is part of a wider DMRC effort to integrate national pride into public spaces.
Several metro stations are already named after decorated military personnel — including Major Mohit Sharma Rajendra Nagar, Arjan Garh, and Brigadier Hoshiar Singh — while Rajouri Garden Metro Station hosts a permanent exhibition honoring gallantry award recipients.
