Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, Congress national spokesperson Gourav Vallabh has resigned from the party on Thursday (4 April).
In a letter to Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Gourav Vallabh called the party 'directionless', and cited reasons for his resignation such as the caste census, and said that he cannot raise ‘anti-Sanatan’ slogans.'
"I do not feel comfortable with the directionless way in which the Congress party is moving forward today. I can neither raise anti-Sanatana slogans nor abuse the wealth creators of the country. I am resigning from all posts and primary membership of the Congress party," Gourav Vallabh wrote on X.
Gourav Vallabh, who handled Mallikarjun Kharge’s Congress president campaign, was an effective voice on economic issues.
In his letter to the Congress chief, Gourav Vallabh questioned the party's silence on anti-Sanatan statements by alliance partners.
"I am troubled by the Congress party's stance on the consecration of Lord Ram in Ayodhya. As a Hindu by birth and a teacher by profession, this position of the party has consistently unsettled me. Many individuals associated with the party and its alliances speak against Sanatan Dharma, and the party's silence on this matter is like giving implicit approval," he wrote.
In 2023, Gourav Vallabh contested the Rajasthan assembly election from the Udaipur constituency. However, the BJP candidate clinched a decisive victory, securing a comfortable win with a margin of over 32,000 votes.
Gourav Vallabh made his poll debut in 2019 in Jharkhand's Jamshedpur East, where he bagged over 18,000 and ended up in third spot behind then-sitting chief minister Raghubar Das and Saryu Roy.
