A team of Indian burn specialists and nurses arrived in Dhaka on Wednesday (23 July) to assist in the treatment of victims injured in the 21 July Bangladesh military plane crash, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the Indian Express reported.
According to the MEA, the team will stay in Bangladesh for about a week and support ongoing medical efforts following the tragic incident.
The delegation comprises two leading burn specialists, Dr Ram Mohan from Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital and Dr Piyush Thayal from Safdarjung Hospital, as well as nurses Puneet Sharma and Anita Verma from RML.
These medical professionals have also carried essential medicines with them.
“They will make an assessment of the condition of patients with recommendation for further treatment and specialised care in India as necessary,” the MEA said in a statement.
The team will not only assist with treatment but also advise the Bangladesh government on medical protocols and support needs.
After their mission, they are expected to debrief the MEA and India’s Directorate General of Health Services.
“Additional medical teams may also follow depending on their preliminary assessment and treatment,” the MEA added.
The crash occurred when a Bangladesh Air Force F-7 BGI training aircraft suffered mechanical failure and crashed into Milestone School and College in Dhaka’s Uttara area.
The tragedy claimed at least 29 lives, many of them children, and injured around 170 people.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had expressed deep sorrow over the incident.

We pray for the swift recovery of those injured. India stands in solidarity with Bangladesh and is ready to extend all possible support and assistance.”
