Indian Navy Conducts Daring Rescue Of Critically Injured Chinese Mariner

The Indian Navy successfully conducted a medical evacuation of a critically injured Chinese mariner from a bulk carrier off the Mumbai coast.

The Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre (MRCC) in Mumbai received a distress call on Tuesday (23 July) from the bulk carrier named 'Zhong Shan Men,' which was 200 nautical miles (approximately 370 km) from Mumbai.

The call reported heavy blood loss due to a critical injury to the 51-year-old mariner, urging immediate evacuation.

In response to the distress call, the Indian Navy launched a Sea King helicopter from the Indian Naval Air Station INS Shikra.

Despite challenging conditions with winds over 45 knots and the ship experiencing heavy roll, compounded by non-availability of a clear area on the continuous deck, the Navy successfully airlifted the injured mariner from the bridge wing of the vessel.

The Indian Coast Guard ship ICGS Samrat in the area was also diverted to render assistance.

The patient was transported back to the air station by an Indian Navy helicopter and was subsequently shifted to a hospital for treatment.

This joint operation coordinated by MRCC (Mumbai) with the Indian Navy led to the safe and timely evacuation of the patient.
