US President Donald Trump on Tuesday (24 June) intervened directly to prevent further escalation between Israel and Iran, just hours after announcing a ceasefire between the two rivals, Hindu reported.

In a strongly worded post on Truth Social, he warned, “ISRAEL. DO NOT DROP THOSE BOMBS. IF YOU DO IT IS A MAJOR VIOLATION. BRING YOUR PILOTS HOME, NOW!”

Reassuring global observers, Trump later added, “Israel is not going to attack Iran. All planes will turn around and head home, while doing a friendly “Plane Wave” to Iran. Nobody will be hurt, the Ceasefire is in effect! Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

The ceasefire, brokered after 12 days of intense hostilities, prompted the Indian Embassy in Iran to wind down emergency operations.

“In view of the announcement of ceasefire, the Embassy of India’s Contact Desk at Hotel Sadr in Mashhad, Iran is henceforth closed,” the Embassy said in a post on X.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Health Ministry reported a grim toll from the conflict, stating that at least 610 civilians had been killed and over 4,700 wounded since Israeli strikes began on 13 June.

“They are all civilians,” said ministry spokesperson Hossein Kermanpour. He added, “Over the past 12 days, hospitals... have been confronted with extremely harrowing scenes.”

Among the dead were 13 children, including a two-month-old infant, as well as five doctors and rescue workers. Seven hospitals and nine ambulances were also damaged.

Despite the ceasefire, international concern lingers. French President Emmanuel Macron, speaking in Norway, welcomed the ceasefire but cautioned, “The situation clearly remains volatile and unstable.”

He added, “I think it’s a very good thing that President Trump is calling for a ceasefire.”
