The Karnataka government recently formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate allegations implicating JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna, also the party's candidate in Hassan, in a sex abuse case as per a report by The Indian Express.
Subsequently, the party suspended him, following a recommendation made by JD(S) core committee president G T Deve Gowda. Revanna's father, HD Revanna, a Holenarasipura MLA and son of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, has also been implicated in the case.
The suspension of Prajwal Revanna was announced by JD(S) core committee president G T Deve Gowda in light of the video evidence related to the case. This decision has been communicated to JD(S) national president H D Deve Gowda for approval.
Additionally, former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy stated that the suspension will remain in effect until the SIT completes its probe, with the possibility of permanent suspension pending the outcome of the investigation.
The JD(S) leadership emphasised their commitment to ensuring justice for the women involved in the case. They expressed concern over attempts to tarnish the reputation of their family through this issue and dismissed any political motivations behind it.
H D Kumaraswamy questioned the relevance of linking the case to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and reiterated their focus on upholding justice and protecting the rights of women.
The woman filed a complaint with the Holenarasipura Police, revealing she was motivated to speak out after seeing other victims sharing similar experiences online. She claimed the abuse happened from 2019 to 2022.
The complaints filed against Prajwal Revanna, along with others, will be investigated by the SIT led by Additional General of Police Bijay Kumar Singh, assisted by IPS officers Suman D Pennekar and Seema Latkar.
