Karnataka’s Rs 625-crore socio-economic and education survey will start on Monday (22 September), aiming to record the social, economic, educational, and political representation of every caste and community in the state, reported The Times Of india.
Madhusudhan Naik, head of the Other Backward Classes (OBC) panel, said a two- to three-day delay might occur in Greater Bengaluru following a request from the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) administration.
“The survey — which is not to be confused with caste census — will begin on 22 Sept and end on 7 Oct as per our calendar,” Naik said, adding that caste will be part of the survey but not its sole focus.
He explained that GBA authorities required extra time for training officials due to BBMP’s division into five corporations, causing additional administrative issues.
“While we expect the delay to be around 2-3 days, it may even extend by a week. It will be completed within the stipulated time of 15 days from the date of commencement,” he said.
The survey, the second in 10 years, will involve 1.7 lakh enumerators who will ask households 60 questions.
Enumerators will use a mobile application for responses, with Aadhaar authentication and geotagging of around 2 crore houses to prevent duplication.
“While the Aadhaar authentication will be used to ensure there are no double entries of responses, the geotagging will help in reducing the possibility of enumerators not visiting the houses,” Naik and panel member-secretary B. Dayanand said.
If households are unavailable, enumerators will attach a sticker with a contact number for a callback. Residents can also submit responses online using Aadhaar verification.
In Bengaluru, the GBA will offer a helpline for slot booking so enumerators can visit households at convenient times.
The survey will rely heavily on technology and is scheduled to conclude by 7 Oct.
