A long-awaited dream of a ropeway ride over Nandi Hills is finally taking shape as the district administration has initiated land acquisition for the Rs 93.4 crore project, Times of India reported.

The Chikkaballapur district administration in Karnataka has reportedly issued a notification for the acquisition of approximately four acres of land at Madaku Hosahalli village, near the Kanive Basaveshwara Swamy temple, at the foothills of Nandi Hills, to construct the lower terminal and ropeway corridor.

The lower terminal will feature parking for over 200 cars, 100 two-wheelers, and several buses, alongside a waiting area for more than 500 visitors.

According to the notification, 281 square metres—roughly three guntas have been marked for the terminal, while an additional three acres and 32 guntas will accommodate the corridor.

The district administration has warned against any obstruction during the land acquisition process.

"The public should not create any trouble for the govt officials, including surveyors, during their job of acquiring the land," the notification stated, with legal action threatened against violators.

Landowners have been barred from selling, leasing, or transferring ownership of the identified land, with a 60 day window to file objections with the assistant commissioner of Chikkaballapur subdivision.

Chikkaballapur Deputy Commissioner PN Ravindra confirmed, "The process to acquire necessary land parcels for implementing the Nandi Hills ropeway project has started. We have already received clearance for the project from the forest department and will start the project soon."

The 2.9 km aerial ropeway will be constructed under a public-private partnership using the DBFOT (design, build, finance, operate, and transfer) model. A private operator will manage the system for 30 years.

Initially slated to begin in 2022, the project faced delays due to forest clearances and land issues, which are now resolved.
