The Madras High Court on Friday (3 October) rejected BJP leader Uma Anandan’s plea seeking a CBI investigation into the Karur stampede during actor-turned-politician Vijay’s rally on 27 September, reported Hindustan Times.

Uma Anandan had urged the court to transfer the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation, citing unanswered questions and alleging possible official apathy.

However, a division bench declined the request and directed her to approach the Madurai bench of the High Court, which holds jurisdiction over the matter.

In a separate development, the court also dismissed anticipatory bail for Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader N Sathish Kumar,

Justice N Senthilkumar, while rejecting Sathish Kumar’s anticipatory bail plea, questioned the party’s inability to control the crowd.

The judge also highlighted the unruly behaviour of their supporters, including rampage and damage to public property during Vijay’s roadshow.

Police have registered nine FIRs against Vijay's party members, including the district secretary, for destroying public property. The stampede claimed 41 lives.
