The Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata (SMPK), has drawn record investment commitments exceeding Rs 48,000 crore through a series of strategic partnerships inked during the India Maritime Week 2025 in Mumbai.
As per a PTI report, SMPK signed MoUs with Dredging Corporation of India Ltd (DCIL) for long-term dredging works, and with Haldia Petrochemicals Ltd for the development of tank-farm and POL (petroleum, oil and lubricants) handling facilities at Haldia Dock.
Leading private players including Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd, JSW Infrastructure Ltd, and Century Ports & Harbours Ltd have also joined hands with SMPK to develop new container terminals under the public-private partnership (PPP) model.
UltraTech Cement Ltd will set up a dedicated cement bulk terminal at the Kolkata Dock Complex, while real estate developers such as Srijan Real Estate & Infrastructure Pvt Ltd and Eden Realtors Ltd will collaborate on riverfront redevelopment projects on port-owned land parcels.
“These partnerships mark a defining step in SMPK's journey of transformation. By bringing together industry leaders and forward-looking institutions, we are building a future-ready maritime ecosystem that enhances trade capacity, attracts global investment, and supports sustainable and inclusive growth for the region,” SMPK Chairman Rathendra Raman was quoted as saying by PTI.
Deputy Chairman Samrat Rahi detailed the investment breakdown, noting that Haldia Petrochemicals leads with Rs 10,000 crore, followed by Rs 5,000 crore from DCIL.
Srijan Realty and HUDCO have pledged Rs 3,000 crore each, while Ripley committed Rs 2,500 crore, and Adani Rs 2,000 crore. JSW Infrastructure and IPRCL have pledged Rs 1,500 crore each, and Century Ports Rs 1,000 crore, while the terms of the Tata Steel partnership remain confidential.
