Six-time Congress MLA from Sheopur's Vijaypur, Ramniwas Rawat, who joined the BJP ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, was inducted in the Madhya Pradesh cabinet today (8 July).

Rawat was sworn in as the Minister by Governor Mangubhai Patel in the presence of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav at Raj Bhavan in Bhopal.

This makes Rawat the 32nd Minister in the Mohan Yadav Cabinet. Rawat earlier resigned from the Legislative Assembly, which was accepted by Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar.

It is believed that Rawat was rewarded for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s good performance in the Gwalior-Chambal region. The party won all 29 Lok Sabha seats in the state.

Notably, Rawat was also the working president of the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) and was a Cabinet Minister when Digvijaya Singh was the Chief Minister.

He was even seen campaigning for Digvijaya Singh in the Rajgarh Lok Sabha constituency for a few days. However, he joined the BJP on 30 April.
