Maharashtra Assembly Elections: Congress Releases Second List Of 23 Candidates, 71 Names Announced By The Party So Far

The Indian National Congress (INC) on Saturday (26 October 2024) released its second list of 23 candidates for the November 2024 Assembly elections in Maharashtra.

The second list of Congress candidates introduces several fresh faces, three women and one sitting MLA, Kailash Gorantyal, representing the Jalna Assembly seat. 

Of the 23 seats, around 13 are in Vidarbha, a region where the Congress is looking to secure substantial gains.

The contentious Nagpur South seat, previously a point of dispute between Congress and its Maha Vikas Aghadi ally Shiv Sena (UBT), has been allocated to Congress, with Girish Pandav as the candidate. 

Additionally, Anuja Kedar, wife of Congress leader Sunil Kedar, is set to contest the Savner seat in Nagpur district.

The Congress also named candidates for three Mumbai seats.

The list came after the party's Central Election Committee (CEC) met and discussed the names of the candidates for the polls.

The Congress declared 48 candidates in its first list. With this list, the Congress has now announced 71 candidates.

The Congress has also asserted that there were no differences in the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition and the final seat-sharing arrangement among its constituents will be out by Saturday (26 October 2024) evening.

Maha Vikas Agadi, of which the Congress is a part, announced its seat-sharing formula for 255 constituencies on Wednesday (23 October 2024), with Congress, NCP-SP and Shiv Sena (UBT) set to contest 85 seats each.

The remaining seats will be either given to smaller MVA allies or will be redistributed among the major parties.

Assembly Elections in Maharashtra are scheduled to take place on 20 November and the counting is set to take place on 23 November.
