The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has successfully installed a massive 48-metre-long steel span at Kapurbawadi Junction near Majiwada on Metro Line 4, which will link Wadala to Kasarvadavli.
The 325 tonne span was placed over Thane’s busy Ghodbunder Road during challenging conditions, marking a significant milestone as construction on the Wadala-Thane Metro line now stands at 84.5 per cent completion.
In an update on X, the MMRDA stated, “Lifted and placed a 48-meter-long steel span over a busy road in just 2 nights, keeping the city moving while we worked. Despite heavy rain, ongoing traffic on Ghodbunder Road, and limited space due to nearby flyovers, extra resources were deployed to keep the work going smoothly without any interruptions."
The newly installed span—built with four massive steel girders, measuring 48 metres in length, 14 metres in height, and weighing 325 tonnes completes all the special steel spans between Majiwada and Kasarvadavli. This achievement keeps the project on schedule for Phase 1 commissioning.
The ambitious Metro Line 4, spanning from Wadala to Kasarvadavli, will feature 30 elevated stations. Additionally, the 2.7 km Line 4A extension up to Gaimukh will further enhance connectivity.
According to MMRDA, the line is expected to cut daily commute times by up to 75 per cent on certain routes, providing a faster and more efficient public transport option for thousands of commuters.
