West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee targeted all opposition parties -- BJP, CPI (M) and Congress -- for "disturbing peace" in Sandeshkhali and highlighted the action taken by her government against the accused.
"We always take action in case of any wrong. If there are any allegations, we will take action, and whatever was taken forcibly will be returned. I have asked the police to take suo motu cognizance. Our block president has been arrested. In Bhangar, Arabul Islam has also been arrested," she said.
This comes after two of the three prime accused TMC Zilla Parishad member Uttam Sardar and Shiboprasad Hazra have been arrested, while the main accused TMC leader Shahjahan Sheikh is still on the run.
Banerjee targeted the BJP calling it anti-Bengali, anti-women, anti-farmer, and anti-dalit and questioned what action has the BJP taken against their leaders. She also said that it is using ED and CBI to threaten TMC.
On Sandeshkhali she said, "First ED, then BJP and now media are trying to disturb peace there." On PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering Act) cases, she said law should take its course but people should not be kept behind bars.
"Earlier, I had to face the torture of Left and now I have to face the torture of BJP. Ram-Vaam-Shyam [BJP, Left, Congress] have joined hands. They had joined hands a long time back. This is the same CPI(M) that used to play with deaths," she was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
On alliance with Congress, Banerjee expressed her readiness if CPI (M) is not part of it because she has not forgotten their tortures. Earlier, she had offered two seats to the Congress, and when the latter refused, she pledged to not share a single seat in the state.
