Over 4 lakh candidates have been hired under the Mission Recruitment, the Modi Government's initiative to fill 10 lakh posts by the end of 2023, with around one in every six candidates were women.

The Government has appointed at least 4,30,546 candidates as clerks, typists, teachers, and doctors during six Rozgar Melas.

According to data available with the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, 84 per cent of the recruits were male, and 16 per cent were women, totalling 3,61,763 and 68,783, respectively.

In June last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had instructed officials to fill 10 lakh vacant posts within 18 months in June last year, leading to the launch of the mega recruitment drive.

The first Rozgar Mela was held on 14 October, a few months later.

The Ministry of Railways hired the most with 138,986 new employees, followed by the Department of Posts with 68,225 and the Ministry of Home Affairs with 43,592.

The Department of Financial Services selected 33,743 candidates, while the Ministry of Defence recruited 18,635, the Department of Revenue 14,952, and the Department of Higher Education 11,536.

The Personnel Ministry stated that recruitment agencies such as SSC, UPSC, and RRBs are conducting all the recruitments in a time-bound and transparent manner.

The recruitments are mainly for Group B and Group C level positions, which will directly enhance the quality of service provided by these departments to citizens, according to the Personnel Ministry, reports Indian Express.

As per the ministry, the new recruits will work in various capacities:

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare employs various professionals, including doctors, medical specialists, assistant/associate/additional professors, physiotherapists, technical officers, sanitary attendants, occupational therapists, ophthalmic technicians, and more.

The Department of School Education offers positions such as principal, trained graduate teacher, and post-graduate teacher.

The Ministry of Railways has a range of job opportunities, including commercial-cum-ticket clerks, junior clerk-cum-typists, junior accounts clerks, track maintainers, points men, and assistants.

The Department of Financial Services provides employment for probationary officers, agriculture field officers, clerks/single window operators, development assistants, armed guards, and junior associates.

The Gramin Dak Sevaks and Inspector of Posts fall under the Department of Posts.

Jitendra Singh, the Minister of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, along with the Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office, stated that the Modi government has brought about a qualitative change in the recruitment process.

“Interviews have been abolished for lower grade posts, thus leaving little room for any favouritism, nepotism or misappropriation in allocation of selection marks. The selection is purely on the basis of the written test, while the skill test is only a qualifying one,” Singh was quoted by IE as saying.
