Muhammad Yunus Visits Dhakeshwari Temple Amid Attacks On Bangladeshi Hindus, Asserts Everyone Is Equal Before Law

To give a message against attacks on minorities, especially Hindus in Bangladesh, the head of the interim government Muhammad Yunus visited the Dhakeshwari temple on Tuesday (13 August).

The visit comes after Bangladesh's interim government announced it is addressing attacks on Hindus and other religious minorities that emerged following the sudden removal of Sheikh Hasina.

The temple, located in the country's capital Dhaka, is over a thousand years old and among the Shakti peeths of Goddess Durga. After the visit, Yunus emphasised human rights and free speech.

"You simply say that you are human, a citizen of Bangladesh, and this is your constitutional right that must be ensured. Just demand this, nothing more," Yunus said assuring Hindus of their rights.

Since Hasina came to India after resigning from the post of Prime Minister, there have been multiple reports of violence targeting Hindu homes, temples, and businesses.

Earlier, Yunus had called out 'heinous' crimes aaimst Hindus and said, "Are they not the people of this country? You (students) have been able to save this country; can't you save some families?"

Yunus also asserted that everyone is equal before law and there is no scope to create any differences. He urged everyone to cooperate with the interim government to establish the rule of law in Bangladesh.

"Please help us to establish that, have patience, and judge later whether we could do that or not. If we can not do that, then blame us. That is the main thing," he was quoted as saying by Dhaka Tribune.
