The bridge over the Vishwamitri River in Vadodara district has been completed for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project, the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) said on Wednesday (6 August).

This is the seventeenth river bridge completed in Gujarat out of the 21 planned river bridges for the corridor.

Spanning 80 meters, the newly completed bridge is located adjacent to the Vadodara-Surat main line of Western Railways and comprises two 40-meter spans, constructed using the Span by Span (SBS) method.

The structure rests on three circular piers, each 5.5 meters in diameter, with one pier placed within the river stream and the other two on either bank.

Each pier is supported by 12 piles, each 1.8 meters in diameter and extending up to 53 meters deep.

Situated approximately 3 km from the upcoming Vadodara Bullet Train station, the bridge is a vital component of the corridor’s urban alignment.

Given Vadodara’s dense urban environment, construction required meticulous planning and collaboration with the Vadodara Municipal Corporation and local authorities.

The Vishwamitri River, which intersects the bullet train alignment at nine locations in and around Vadodara, poses a complex engineering challenge.

Besides the main river bridge, three of the eight remaining crossings have already been completed, while construction continues on the others.

This is the second river bridge completed in Vadodara district, following the 120-meter bridge over the Dhadhar River.

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail corridor includes a total of 25 river bridges, with 21 located in Gujarat and 4 in Maharashtra.

With the completion of the Vishwamitri River bridge, the NHSRCL has now delivered bridges across the following rivers in Gujarat: Par, Purna, Mindhola, Ambika, Auranga, Venganiya, Mohar, Dhadhar, Kolak, Vatrak, Kaveri, Kharera, Meshwa, Kim, Darotha, Daman Ganga, and Vishwamitri.
