The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is expediting preparations for the much-awaited Mumbai Metro Line 14 project, a 38 km metro corridor connecting Kanjurmarg to Badlapur, Jagran reported.
In a key step forward, MMRDA has issued a tender to appoint a consultant for preparing an environmental impact report and securing crucial approvals from forest and environment departments.
Once the consultant is onboard, formalities will be completed swiftly, ensuring construction begins within the next twelve months.
For Badlapur residents, the project brings long-awaited relief by significantly reducing the current 1.5 to 2 hour commute.
As Mumbai’s metro network expands to 337 km, the addition of Metro Line 14 is expected to enhance connectivity and ease congestion across the region.
The detailed project report (DPR), prepared by Milan Metro and approved by IIT Bombay, is now awaiting state government clearance.
Following this, MMRDA will initiate the bidding process to ensure the project stays on schedule.
Given the metro line’s passage through sensitive ecological zones such as Thane Creek, Parsik Hill, and the Flamingo Sanctuary, obtaining environmental clearances is a top priority.
Metro Line 14 will feature a hybrid structure, with an underground metro section from Kanjurmarg to Ghansoli, followed by an elevated corridor from Ghansoli to Badlapur.
The project carries an estimated cost of Rs 18,000 crore, making it one of MMRDA’s most ambitious metro expansion initiatives.
