The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has launched a Rs 2,100 crore project to resurface and improve 61 of the city’s most critical roads, Times of India reported.

The upgrades are crucial to manage the expected surge of devotees, with Nashik set to host the Simhastha Kumbh in 2027, the last having been held in 2015.

The works will be executed in three phases, with the first covering 23 major roads, including stretches of the inner, middle and outer ring roads that link Nashik with national and state highways.

Further, road widening has also been proposed where feasible.

The second phase will focus on 29 roads, notably the important Shahi Marg, while the third will see the re-laying of nine additional stretches.

“We will require around Rs 373 crore for developing the road network by March 2026. The remaining amount will be required in phases during the next financial year,” an NMC official was quoted as saying by ToI.

The official added that the civic body has submitted a comprehensive Rs 15,000 crore plan to the state government for approval, with the public works department proposing Rs 4,000 crore specifically for roads, nine new bridges and other works.

At recent review meetings, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis instructed civic authorities to prioritise projects needing at least two years to complete.

As part of this, tenders have already been finalised for sewage treatment plants, pumping stations and diversion works across 22 nullahs estimated at Rs 1,475 crore.
