A clerk posted at the Indian Navy’s headquarters in New Delhi has been arrested for allegedly spying for Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), including during the sensitive Operation Sindoor period.
According to a report by NDTV, the accused, Vishal Yadav, a resident of Haryana, was arrested by the Rajasthan Police Intelligence Wing after surveillance revealed Yadav was in constant contact with Pakistan intelligence agency's female handler operating under the alias Priya Sharma, through social media.
Yadav had allegedly been sending confidential information related to the Navy and other defense units to the Pakistani handler in exchange for money.
Authorities say he was lured by financial incentives and was using funds to cover losses incurred in online gaming.
According to officials, initial investigation revealed that Vishal Yadav was addicted to playing online games and needed money to cover his losses.
He allegedly received money via cryptocurrency platforms and also directly in his bank accounts.
His mobile phone contained confidential material concerning the Indian Navy and other military units, raising serious concerns about the extent of the data breach.
The suspect is currently being jointly interrogated by multiple intelligence agencies at the Central Interrogation Center in Jaipur.
