In a blow to the ruling BJP in Haryana during the Lok Sabha elections, three Independent MLAs announced on Tuesday (07 May) that they are withdrawing their support from the Nayab Singh Saini-led government in the state.

The MLAs, Sombir Sangwan, Randhir Gollen, and Dharampal Gonder, also declared their decision to support the Congress during the elections.

The announcement was made at a press conference in Rohtak in the presence of former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and State Congress chief Udai Bhan.

"We are withdrawing support from the government and extending our support to the Congress," stated Gonder.

"We have made this decision based on various issues, including those affecting farmers," he added.

Udai Bhan, speaking at the press conference, confirmed, "The three Independent MLAs – Sombir Sangwan, Randhir Singh Gollen, and Dharampal Gonder – have withdrawn their support from the BJP government and extended their support to the Congress."

He added, "The current strength of the Haryana Assembly is 88 out of 90 members, with the BJP holding 40 seats. The BJP government previously had the support of JJP MLAs and Independents, but the JJP has also withdrawn its support, and now Independents are following suit."

"With the withdrawal of support from Independents, the Nayab Singh Saini government is now a minority government. Saini should resign immediately as he no longer has the right to remain in office," Bhan concluded.

Bhan also called for immediate assembly polls to be conducted in the state.
