Nayab Saini took oath as the Chief Minister of Haryana on Tuesday (12 March) along with five ministers, namely Kanwar Pal Gujjar, Mool Chand Sharma, Ranjit Singh Chautala, Jai Prakash Dalal and Banwari Lal.
Saini won the Lok Sabha election from Kurukshetra in 2019. He was earlier elected as an MLA from Naraingarh in 2014 and served as a Minister of State in the Haryana government for four years.
While Saini hails from the Other Backward Class (OBC) community and is another non-Jat CM of Haryana after Manohar Lal Khattar, the ministers come from different communities. Here's a brief profile of them:
Kanwar Pal Gujjar was a Cabinet Minister in Khattar government 2.0 and served as speaker of the Haryana Legislative Assembly during Khattar's first term.
He has been MLA from Jagadhri of Yamunanagar district, falling under Ambala Lok Sabha constituency, since 2014. He hails from the influential Gujjar community.
Mool Chand Sharma was also a Cabinet Minister in Khattar government 2.0 and has been representing Ballbhgarh as an MLA since 2014. He is a Brahmin by caste.
Ranjit Singh Chautala is another Cabinet Minister from the Khattar government's second term. He was elected as an MLA from Sirsa's Rania in 2019 and earlier served as Rajya Sabha MP. He is a Jat.
Chautala is the son of former Haryana CM Chaudhary Devi Lal and has been affiliated with various political parties like Congress, Janata Dal and Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), before coming to the BJP.
Jai Prakash Dalal joined the BJP in 2014 and was elected as an MLA from Bhiwani's Loharu in 2019. He was also a Cabinet Minister in the Khattar government with agriculture and other portfolios.
Banwari Lal was also a Cabinet Minister in the Khattar government 2.0. Earlier, he was a Minister of State in the Haryana government. He has been representing Rewari's Bawal since 2014.
Outgoing CM Manohar Lal Khattar was present on the stage during the oath ceremony. He is likely to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, most probably from Karnal.
