Netanyahu Calls Trump 'Greatest Friend Of Israel' In Knesset Speech As War With Hamas Comes To An End

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu lavished praise on US President Donald Trump at the Knesset on Monday (13 October), calling him “the greatest friend that the State of Israel has ever had in the White House.”

He thanked Trump for decisions that he said had transformed Israel’s security and diplomatic landscape, as both leaders marked the end of two years of war and looked ahead to a potential ceasefire, reported The Times Of India.

Netanyahu credited Trump with helping secure the release of Israeli hostages during the conflict. “At the beginning of the war, I promised to bring all the hostages home. Today, with the indispensable help, the determined and focused help, the unremitting help of President Trump ... and with the incredible sacrifice and courage of the soldiers of Israel, we are fulfilling that promise,” he said.

Netanyahu also highlighted Trump’s broader diplomatic achievements, saying that he had seen many American presidents but had never seen anyone move the world “so quickly, so decisively, so resolutely” as President Donald J. Trump.

Netanyahu outlined five key decisions by Trump that strengthened Israel: recognising Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, moving the US embassy there, recognising Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights, standing up against anti-Israel actions at the UN, recognizing Israeli rights in Judea and Samaria in the 2020 peace plan, and withdrawing from the Iran nuclear deal while supporting Israeli military operations.

In a striking moment, Netanyahu announced that he had nominated Trump for the Israel Prize, the country’s highest civilian honor, and noted Israel had endorsed him for the Nobel Peace Prize. “There is no one more deserving than you, Mr. President,” he said.

While praising Trump’s efforts, Netanyahu confirmed he would skip the Sharm El-Sheikh peace summit due to the Jewish holidays. He reaffirmed Israel’s commitment to peace: “You are committed to this peace, I am committed to this peace... we will achieve this peace.”
