While the tenure of J P Nadda as the national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ended on 30 June, after an extension of six months, the party is yet to choose its new chief.

The party now plans to begin the process of appointing a new president on 1 August but is expected to conclude only by December. First, the party will run a comprehensive membership drive.

It will be conducted from 1 August to 15 September, followed by an active membership campaign from 16 to 30 September and then a verification of active membership from 1 to 15 October.

Meanwhile, all members including senior leaders and those holding government officers are required to renew their membership, as per the party constitution demanding renewal in every nine years.

From 1 to 15 November, elections of mandal (local unit) presidents will be held, followed by district president elections from 16 to 30 November. Then members of state council and central council will be elected.

After the completion of these processes, state presidents will be elected from 1 December onwards. When 50 per cent of the state presidents have been chosen, the process of electing the national president will begin.
