The New Delhi constituency heated up as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) filed a complaint with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) alleging that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) distributed cash to the voters ahead of assembly elections.
The complaint was filed against former West Delhi BJP member of Parliament (MP) Parvesh Verma by AAP Rajya Sabha MP for allegedly distributing Rs 1,100 each to voters in the New Delhi assembly constituency.
Former Delhi Chief Minister and national convener of AAP, Arvind Kejriwal is the party candidate here. While the BJP has not declared any candidate, it is believed that Verma might be fielded from here.
While Singh claimed crores of rupees would be recovered if the ED conducted raids at Verma’s residence, the latter defended himself saying that money was distributed through a non-governmental organisation (NGO).
The NGO named Rashtriya Swabhiman was founded by Verma's father and former chief minister Sahib Singh Verma. The money was allegedly given to women at Verma's Lutyens' bungalow on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the son of another former Delhi CM Sheila Dixit, Sandeep Dixit is also in the fray from the New Delhi constituency on the Congress ticket. He approached Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena to complain about AAP.
Dixit accused AAP of committing fraud by registering women to a 'non-existent' Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana and alleged that the ruling party is spreading misinformation that a scheme for Rs 1,000 monthly exists.
He elaborated that if the AAP had said that they would give Rs 2,100 if they won the elections, then there was no issue, but the 'fraud' is that they said that a scheme of Rs 1,000 already exists, and they will increase the amount to Rs 2,100.
"And they are making you (women) fill forms for the scheme. If this is a case of fraud, then it should be investigated and a case lodged against (CM) Atishi and Kejriwal who have committed this fraud," he added urging Delhi Police's intervention.
