Efforts to connect Jhansi with the Bundelkhand Expressway have gathered pace, with the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) initiating plans for a 115 km link expressway, as per a report by Hindi daily Amar Ujala.

This proposed route is expected to traverse 63 villages across the tehsils of Garotha, Tahrauli, Moth, and Jhansi.

Villages through which the link road will pass have been finalised, and a drone survey is now underway to chart the precise alignment, likely to conclude within a month.

The link expressway is seen as critical to boosting connectivity for the General Bipin Rawat Defence Corridor and the Bundelkhand Industrial Development Authority (BIDA), both poised for significant investment in the region.

As part of broader efforts to improve road infrastructure, the government plans to connect the industrial corridor seamlessly to the Bundelkhand Expressway.

A 115 km stretch will be constructed between Jalaun and Erich, from where it will join the main expressway, creating faster routes to Delhi, Lucknow, Agra, and Eastern Uttar Pradesh.

“Drone survey has been started for the proposed villages of the Jhansi Link Expressway. This work will be completed soon. With its help, the Defence Corridor and BIDA can also be connected to the Bundelkhand Expressway,” Varun Pandey, Additional District Magistrate (Administration) was quoted as saying by Amar Ujala.

The estimated cost for the proposed link expressway stands at around Rs 1,300 crore, though officials stress this figure remains provisional.

Initial plan is to keep the expressway four-laned, with potential expansion to six lanes in future.

Approximately Rs 228 crore has been earmarked for land acquisition, with the government already approving part of the funding.
