Three of the accused are said to hail from Dakshina kannada, while one belongs to neighbouring district of Kodagu. A cash prize of Rs 5 Lakh each has been announced for helping trace Mohammed Mustafa from Bellare’s Budumane, Tufail M H of Gaddige in Madikeri.

A reward of Rs 2 Lakh each has been announced for those who help find Ummar Farooq and Abubakkar Siddique of Sullya.

Nettaru was a BJYM leader who was hacked to death on 26 July this year. Three men who were riding atop a bike with Kerala registration are said to have attacked Praveen Nettaru as he was closing his chicken stall for the day. While he tried to escape, the assailants followed him and brutally attacked him.
