In a big setback for jailed Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Delhi deputy CM Manish Sisodia, a Delhi court on Saturday (6 April) extended his judicial custody till 18 April in the Liquor policy case.

Special Judge Kaveri Baweja extended Sisodia's judicial custody after he was produced before the court on the expiry of the judicial custody granted earlier, news agency PTI reported.

Sisodia has been lodged in Tihar jail in connection with the alleged Delhi liquor scam case.

The ex-deputy CM of Delhi was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on 26 February 2023, for his alleged role in the 'scam'.

Later, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Sisodia in a money-laundering case stemming from the CBI FIR on 9 March 2023.

AAP leader Sanjay Singh, who was recently granted bail by the Supreme Court in the same case, also appeared before the court for the proceedings.

Both the CBI and the ED have alleged irregularities in the modification of the Delhi Excise Policy, including the extension of undue favours to license holders, waiving or reducing license fees, and extending licenses without proper authorisation.

According to the probe agencies, the beneficiaries diverted illicit gains to the accused officials and falsified entries in their financial records to avoid detection.
