Noida Police questioned independent journalist and social media influencer Ajeet Bharti on Tuesday (7 October) following his online comments after a lawyer attempted to hurl a shoe at Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai in the Supreme Court, the Hindustan Times reported.
The incident occurred on Monday (6 October) when 71-year-old advocate Rakesh Kishore allegedly tried to throw a shoe at Chief Justice Gavai, reportedly upset over the CJI’s earlier remarks in a case involving the restoration of a Vishnu idol in Khajuraho.
According to India Today, Bharti had said during his podcast, “Gavai is a lousy, undeserving judge, and he should face a contempt (of court) case.”
He also warned that “if judges continue to make such anti-Hindu remarks, what was attempted in the courtroom today could begin happening to them on the streets as well.”
Later, sharing a clip of his podcast on X, Bharti posted in Hindi, “Those who think I am scared of your gang, make sure to watch today's live! Gawai is a lousy, undeserving judge, and a contempt case should be filed against him.”
Police said Bharti was called in for questioning at the Sector 58 police station and later taken to the DCP office at the 12/22 outpost.
“He was called for an inquiry regarding his recent post on X. He has not been arrested,” an officer was quoted as saying by HT.
After questioning, Bharti posted on X that he was “fine” and had neither been arrested nor detained.
In later posts, he added, “The government is ours; the system is ours,” and, “If the entire system were against me, I wouldn't be out and about… The entire system is with me.”
Meanwhile, activist Suraj Kumar Bauddh has written to Attorney General R Venkataramani seeking consent to initiate criminal contempt proceedings against Bharti and a religious orator for their alleged provocative remarks.
Ajeet Bharti is known for his outspoken views and criticism of what he calls anti-Hindu policies, and his sharp-witted commentaries on his YouTube channel.
Before venturing into independent journalism, he worked with several major media organisations, including OpIndia.
Bharti has built a long career in journalism and is also recognised for his satirical Hindi writings. He has authored several books that enjoy wide popularity among Hindi readers.
