The Centre is set to greenlight a major highway project in Odisha—a 110 km, six-lane Greenfield Ring Road in the capital region of Bhubaneshwar, OTV News reported.
The infrastructure push, with an estimated cost of around Rs 8,300 crore, is designed to bolster connectivity between Khordha, Bhubaneswar, and Cuttack while easing traffic snarls and enhancing regional transit efficiency.
Planned as an access-controlled expressway, the new corridor will trim highway travel time between the three cities by nearly 40 minutes, cutting journeys from the current two hours to approximately 80 minutes.
The project is expected to not only alleviate congestion across urban zones but also facilitate smoother movement of freight and daily commuters across Odisha’s capital region.
In line with central directives on building bypasses, the Odisha government has reportedly agreed to bearing half the cost of acquiring land, which is estimated at Rs 1,029 crore.
To streamline project execution, the mammoth venture will be split into three separate packages.
Engineered for modern traffic needs, the 110 km stretch will feature six interchanges, four elevated sections, and an extensive network of bridges, including five major spans and 44 smaller ones.
The route will also integrate three railway overbridges and 17 vehicle underpasses to ensure unbroken traffic flow across key routes.
The construction is likely to proceed under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM), blending public expenditure with private sector investment.
The construction is expected to be completed within two and a half years by the contractor who will also maintain the expressway for 15 years after its launch.
