Indian security forces thwarted over 600 aerial attacks in the form of missiles and drones earlier this month on the southern end of India’s border with Pakistan, which includes the Bhuj sector in Gujarat and the Barmer sector in Rajasthan, the Border Security Force (BSF) said on Friday (30 May).
The Indian forces either destroyed or forced the missiles and drones to turn back with no harm caused to civilians and no damage to infrastructure, Abhishek Pathak, the Inspector General of the Gujarat Frontier of the BSF, said at a press conference, Indian Express reported.
The Gujarat Frontier of the BSF, part of its Western Command, is responsible for maintaining watch over the Bhuj Sector and the Barmer Sector.
“About 40 per cent of the attacks were in Gujarat while the rest were in the Barmer sector (of Rajasthan)," IG Pathak was quoted as saying by IE.
When asked about the kind of drones and missiles used by Pakistan after Operation Sindoor, he stated that the make and type of the weapons were still being investigated.
“We learnt that Pakistan had not only increased manpower along the border but also deployed heavy artillery and tanks in forward areas. In view of this situation, the BSF, along with the Army, the Navy, and the Air Force, completed its preparations, and officials also visited border areas to brief the personnel and review the preparations," the BSF IG said.
Regarding the BSF's preparations, Pathak stated that Gujarat Frontier had placed "high-calibre weapons and surveillance equipment" at every border post following information regarding the mobilisation of the Pakistani army.
