Addressing a programme in Gandhinagar on Tuesday (27 May), Prime Minister Narendra Modi attributed the Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 people in Kashmir last month, primarily tourists, to the 1947 Partition decision.

According to a report by Mint, he said, “When the Partition happened in 1947, the chains should have been cut at that time, but instead, the country was divided into three parts. Soon after, the first terrorist attack was reported in Kashmir, and Pakistan occupied one part of Kashmir."

“If we had killed these Mujahideens, if we had listened to Sardar Patel, he wanted the Army not to stop until we get back PoK,” Modi said.

Modi stated that what transpired in Pahalgam was a distorted version of the attack that we endured for 75 years. "The Indian Army has defeated Pakistan every time. Pakistan understood that it cannot win from India,” he said.

India carried out precision strikes on terror camps in Pakistan on 7 May, two weeks after the Pahalgam terror attack, as part of what is now known as Operation Sindoor.

Earlier, at Gandhinagar's Mahatma Mandir, PM Modi dedicated and laid the groundwork for a number of development projects totaling Rs 5536 crore.
